A keris has a double edged blade. This type of keris has a characteristic blade, hilt and sheath. You are bidding on yet another antique Riau Lingga keris, the blade alone is estimated be over 100years old. The wavy blade comes with an unusually rare pattern of pamor. The pamor or damascening is the pattern in the surface of a keris blade. The pamor is the most important part of the keris, as according to common belief, it has strong magic power and influence of one pamor pattern is not the same as that of another. There are hundreds of names for pamor patterns, all with different powers and kinds of magic. The hilt and scabbard were replaced with a more recently carved medium hardwood, exceptional finishing in every angle. The sheath is made of finely grained wood, top and bottom of sheath enclosed in solid silver casing with a high relief of ornate and  flower motifs, both sides has different motifs. Note there are several unusual jawi writing,I am unable to translate this. The pendongkok, fitted below the hilt of the keris, just above the blade is carved and decorated from silver. These motifs are carved to the highest standards of any "pandai besi". In bygone days a skilled maker was much respected and every Raja maintained a master craftsman, known as empu or pandai besi, at his court. This is a real weapon, it is sharp, I strongly urge everybody to handle it with care, and not a toy for children to play with.
