Description
Between approximately 9,000 and 10,000 Victorian photographs; 88 Victorian photo albums with photographs in each; approximately 4,000 identified wedding negatives from the 30s through the 60s I need 9 bookshelf cases stacked 2-high just to hold all of them – look at the pictures, no exaggeration!!! This collection is so massive that it is historically significant due to the sheer variety of cities and towns represented General Information 9 bookshelf cases stocked tight with antique Victorian photographs – Cabinet Cards, Tin Types, CDVs, Small-Size Albums with CDVs, Mini-Size Albums with Mini Tin Types, Large-Size Albums with Cabinet Cards, High School Graduation Collections, Rare Oversized Photographs, Many Identified, Several Genealogies Photographs are mostly of people but many include trains, bikes, cars, animals, buildings, combinations thereof, etc. – the list goes on. Many are identified with names on the front or back – I have actually found many descendants using the US Census records from the people’s names and the photographer’s cities contained on these photographs. 75 LINEAR FEET of stacked antique photographs and albums – if not the largest ever offered on eBay, must be among the largest offerings!! 71 Large-size Victorian photo albums all with photographs in them – cloth, metal, hard-covered, leather, some with patterns, some on stands, some with latches, some without latches, some with straps, some in mint condition, most in average condition, so many varieties – green, blue, red, brown, tan, striped, gold edged… the list goes on… some albums’ photographs are identified, at least one has a full genealogy going back hundreds of years… 15 Small-size Victorian photo albums all with photographs in them – some with fancy lettering, some without, some photographs identified, others not… the list goes on 2 Mini-size Victorian photo albums with small Tin Type photographs in them Thousands of identified wedding negatives – the names are clearly written on the packaging or on the negative – beautiful weddings from the 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s, and 60s Literally feet and feet of rare and highly-valued Cabinet Cards from all over the United States – too many places to name! The exact number of photographs is unknown, but a really good estimate based on the number of linear feet of non-album (loose / free) photographs (28 feet) times a sampled count contained in one inch (22) is 7,392. Most CDVs are stacked in tall stacks, and when you add in the photographs contained in all the albums plus bagged snapshots, I submit that a really good estimate is between 9,000 and 10,000 photographs – plus approximately 4,000 mostly-identified wedding negatives. Considering the high value, historical significance, and potential interest of the collection, I welcome anyone willing to travel to see the collection in person. If so, you may make arrangements by calling my work cell at 774-644-6036. All photographs, albums and negatives were purchased by me over a long period of time with the intention of scanning them and creating an online archive of the images. Many of the photographs (several thousand) were indeed scanned and, since they are in the public domain, I retain the freedom to use my scans for any purpose I choose. However, my intentions never came to fruition and I simply no longer have the time and patience to complete my website project. These high-resolution scans are available if someone wishes to make an offer I accept. Sale is “As Is” All items are sold together as one massive lot “as is.” In consideration that I have posted a clear and specific description of the contents, clear and excellent photographs giving much evidence to the size and scope of this collection and its contents, and in consideration that I am willing to show the collection to any serious and interested bidder, there is no possibility for a refund or a return after purchase. Buyer agrees to these terms. All pieces are “antiques,” and as such may be fine, good, worn, tattered, or damaged. A buyer may expect that, on average, photographs, albums and negatives convey average wear and condition expected of pieces of their age and circulation. A minority of the negatives may have stuck to each other in part or in whole due to their age – but these are dwarfed in number by the ones in excellent condition. Shipping and Packaging Charges There are no shipping charges for anyone willing to pick up this massive lot in person (obviously). There are no packaging charges for anyone who picks up the collection in person, and also brings their own boxes or other forms of packaging. If not, buyer pays EXACTLY what is will cost to ship all contents to buyer – nothing more nothing less, according to the method the buyer chooses. I will initially cover cost of shipping out of the proceeds of the sale, and will expect from buyer to reimburse me no later than 30 days after I mail under separate cover proof or receipt of cost of shipping. If buyer does not supply their own boxes or other forms of packaging and/or padding, then buyer agrees to reimburse me $20.00 for the cost of boxes and some sort of padding. It literally will take many good-sized boxes to hold everything and shipping materials can be rather expensive. If mailed, as previously stated, I will use whatever service buyer requests. However, I insist contents must be insured in aggregate to either the purchase price or $10,000, whichever is more. The cost of insurance shall be split equally between buyer and me. Payment Considering the value that this auction may commend, I am open to making special payment arrangements that are mutually beneficial and which presents additional security and surety. If the collection is picked up in person, I will accept cash, United States Postal Service (USPS) money orders, or a certified bank check with verification of funds available. If collection is not picked up in person and mailed, full payment is expected to be sent no later than 3 business days after the close of the auction. Contents will be packed and shipped within 7-10 days after receipt and clearing of payment. All forms of payment are accepted, but anything other than PayPal must clear prior to shipping. No cash in the mail please (obviously). Contact Info I may be reached at 774-644-6036 (serious inquiries only please), and calling with questions is a more reliable way of asking them than sending email or eBay messages. I don’t have access to the Internet all of the time, and so it’s difficult to keep up-to-date on a daily basis. Thank you for your interest. On Dec-07-08 at 18:56:07 PST, seller added the following information:******* Responding to many inquiries asking me for a sampling of the locations of these photographs, I have recorded a random sample and present the following list of distinct states and cities to all interested parties.  This represents a SUBSET of all photographs and is not in any way complete for all photographs.
