This Civil War, Naval Officers Sword is untouched and uncleaned, "Right out of the Woodwork"! The 1862 dated Collins blade rates excellent with some very slight, tiny pittting, one nick, some very slight discoloration/bend at the tip(thirty six more closeup pictures are available upon request). The blade measures approx. 28 7/8" long X 1 1/8" wide. The hilt rates excellent and retains at least 70% of its gold gilt(probably more, I have not cleaned the dirt build up from the hilt). The hilt shows some very slight looseness on the tang. The sharkskin grip rates excellent with slight wear and retains its original twisted wire wrap. The scabbard rates excellent and is maker marked "GORHAM & Co, PROVIDENCE, RI" . The brass fittings rate excellent and are uncleaned, with the drag slightly dented and missing the set screw. The leather rates excellent with no bends or cracks and shows some light scrapes and slight insect damage.
