Rare Museum Piece, 18th C. Piteado Baul, Embroidered Leather Trunk, Jalisco Mexico  Still in the hands of descendants of the original owners from Guadalajara.     Click to View Image Album Click to View Image Album Click to View Image Album  With great pride we offer this museum quality piece of Mexico's history.  These "piteado baules" are virtually non existent in the open market.  When one comes around they are scooped up by another rich Mexican and the ordinary Mexicophile never even gets to see them. Today is your opportunity.  A direct descendant of the Bazauri family from Guadalajara is offering her family heirloom to the highest bidder on Ebay today. You can see an example of this work in the San Antonio Museum of Art (Texas) and the Franz Mayer Museo in Mexico City.  I do not know any other place where there is an example on public view. The Bazauri's built the Capilla de Aranzazu in Guadalajara (attached to the ex-Convento del Carmen), a fantastic Baroque temple in the center of the city completed in the 18th C. This measures 50cm wide by 36cm deep and 29cm tall (that is approx. 20" by 14" by 12"). The lining is linen and in very good shape, the exterior leather shows its 200+ years of existence but is in a remarkable state of conservation when you consider how really old this little gem is! For those who do not know about "piteado"; the process is done by embroidering fresh maguay (agave) fibers into the moist leather.  When both components shrink as they dry a tight long lasting embroidered design is accomplished which after 200 years show no signs of deterioration.  This example does retain some colorations still that are added to the piteado after it is finished. After all the extraordinary work is done with the outer leather layer, a fine array of hand forged iron straps and trim are placed all around the baul finishing it off with a masterpiece of a Colonial blacksmiths lock. Exactly what was held in these is a mystery to me, could be documents, dishes or even apothecary jars would fit very well.   Please write with your questions and comments.  We have an offer in the lower 20's already so you need to be aware that serious people are already aware that we have this piece on the market and make your offers accordingly.  You will not get another chance at one of these on eBay .... ever!  There could be no better place to invest your tired, weak US dollars than in a one of a kind piece like this. Of course it will come with a Letter of Provenance from the surviving family member who is making the sale.   Thanks to you all for looking, please visit us at www. ajijic4me.com . This item will cost at least $199.95 to ship (that includes FedEx shipping from Mexico directly to your address inside the USA with Delivery Confirmation included),  if you need shipping to another country you MUST write before bidding to get a quote.   Insurance is required, actual cost depends on final bid price of Baul and location to which we will ship it, the $199 plus insurance is JUST and estimate.  You can pick it up in Ajijic for free! We will not "negotiate" the shipping charges after the auction is over.    Please do not bid if you cannot wait sometimes up to two weeks for delivery,    Remember your purchase originates in Mexico and so a bit of a delay is always possible on our end and of course it is more costly than shipping within the US of A.  All payments must arrive at our office in Mesa, Az   No later than 10 Days after your auction ends (after your payment is received and clears in Arizona we then initiate shipping). Bidders who need shipping costs to a country that is not on our list of pre-set shipping rates will have to write to us BEFORE bidding.   Remember that your payment must arrive in the US within 10 days after the auction ends. Please review our item descriptions thoroughly and ask questions BEFORE bidding. As much as we would like to accept returns on anything you buy from us that does not give you 100% satisfaction, the reality is that shipping out of Mexico is a many pronged, complicated process and RETURNING items to Mexico is even more difficult. So let's both do our part to make sure when you bid that you understand completely what you are buying and the terms of sale.  Bidders with less than 10 feedbacks will have to write us BEFORE they can bid on our items, if you have any negatives for non paying bidder we must approve you for bidding on our items.  If you do not write before bidding we may unilaterally cancel your bids making it impossible for you  to bid again on that item according to Ebay's policies.  So please just drop me a line if you are new (or have had a problem before)  so we can discuss your bidding history etc.   We are now using the Vendio automated service for \"post-auction\" notification. As high bidder you will receive an email with a clickable link to follow, please provide all the information requested so we can more efficiently close your auction. If you cannot access the HTML at that link or the link doesn\'t work for your browser, please immediately let us know at my email at momtom@hotmail.com Please use the eBay auction number as a reference and I will send you the shipping rates if you include your mailing address at the same time. Payment Your payment must arrive within 10 days after the auction closes.      I accept the following forms of payment: PayPal Money Order Personal CheckPreferred Checkout In order to use Propay so you can use your credit card directly with us, you need to email me your full name and address as it appears with your credit card company.
