Description
This is truly a rare find! As stated, the photograph is an original print dating back to 1879. It was made by Currier and Ives, Lith. from 115 Nassau St. New York City, New York which is printed on the bottom as well as a copyright. It's also noted that it was printed for and by agent John Lind who lived in Utah. The print and frame are both in pristine condition considering their age. The print itself measures about 13'' (width) by 16 1/2'' (length) but with the brown wooden frame it totals 18'' (width) by 21 1/2'' (length). I have never seen this particular print duplicated before and, if you notice, Hyram Smith's name has been mispelled. It's HyrUm, not "Hyram". It's important to note that the frame has never been professionally cleaned so there are small bits of dust but, after some careful and professional care, that could be easily removed. The print has been in my family for years and I'm parting with it due to financial stresses. In the late 1960's my grandfather bought a lot in Hyrum, Utah with the intentions to one day build a house there. On that lot was an old barn which housed MANY antique treasures including this picture. The barn was cleaned of its antiques and later torn down but the picture has remained in my family ever since. I had it appraised about a year and a half ago by a local antique dealer who specializes in LDS historical items and he said its value is near $1,200. That was almost two years ago though so I don't have a clue what it would be today. I'm starting the bidding relatively low because I need the money before Christmas. You can be sure that the item is 100% authentic and will come with a guarantee. It will also be shipped with the utmost care and will be insured as well. Bid with confidence but, more importantly, enjoyment! Thanks for looking and HAPPY HOLIDAYS to all! Note: Any lighter spots in the photo were caused by glare from the glass. The print has no light spots on it :) Payment must be made within three days of auction ending. International buyers, please contact me about shipping rates before bidding. Absolutely no personal checks will be accepted!
