Description
I am pleased to offer this elegant powder jar circa 1900. It contained the beautiful Swan Down Puff that I currently have listed on Ebay. This jar features a large size American Brilliant Cut Glass base featuring a lovely motif of elongated hobstar, fans and crosshatched diamond panels. The cuts are deep and sharp and the blank is heavy. It features a beautiful floral repousse design quite characteristic of the Art Nouveau period that this piece is dated to. The floral design frames a central cartouche with the initial "A" in fancy Old English print. The inside is marked " S 2510". It measures 3-1/4" high to the top of the lid. and measures 4-1/4" center diameter. This is a large size as compared to many of the old dresser jars.  Upon researching this jar, I found the identical jar on the internet listed in the following site http://www.trocadero.com/mitch0369/items/699461/item699461store.html#itemA The identical jar with the same # is listed for$295.00. The only difference is the makers mark is not on the jar I am selling. This happens many times on a curved lid where the stamp doesn't make the impression. There is no doubt about this being a Gorham Sterling jar. Normal 0 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 The lid is in excellent condition as is the glass base. This exquisite piece probably had a prominent  place on the dresser of a very privileged lady of this era. A wonderful addition to your collection that would make a very impressive display on a lady’s  dresser.
