ANTIQUE TROLLEY FARE COLLECTOR / COUNTER / REGISTER/ BOX This was purchased years ago at an auction. It really WORKS. You pull the handle down and the numbers increase and a bell rings. The back part attaches and detaches. I think you would mount the back piece on the wall and then attach the meter to it. I am not sure if its made of brass, copper, bonze or a little of each I also think the back part that you hange it has some cast iron in it. The knob on the side pulls out you turn it and it changes from IN to OUT and the top numbers clear. Inside reads; THE INTERNATIONAL REGISTER CO. CHICAGO, ILL U.S.A. There is a key whole on the side like you would find in an antique clock, I believe if you turn this it more than likely changes the bottom counter back to 0. I don't have the key to change this. I found a number on the back of the counter it is R7895. I didn't find any patent date on it so I am not exactly sure of the date this was made late 1800 to early 1900's. I found some info on the internet about it, read below. I found this info on the internet.At least three company names can be associated with the Cutawl machine's history. The initial patent was assigned to the International Register Company in Chicago, IL (as were all subsequent patents.)International Register CompanyThe first product designed and patented by the International Register Company was a trolly fare collector/counter. It received a patent in 1894! (They also inventwed the snooze alarm function for alarm clocks!) I checked on the internet before listing this item to get more info and I could only find the info I have listed above. I could not find another trolley fare register like this one at all on the internet at this time. So I think these are rare and hard to find. Weighs almost 18 lbs.
