ellisantique store ANTIQUE c1870s MASONIC KNIGHTS TEMPLAR SWORD w SCABBARD IVORY GRIP PHILADELPHIA PA LODGE w ORIGINAL RECORDS Be sure to visit our other auctions for more vintage and antique items! We are listing a large collection of Masonic items from the same estate. We are listing the Father’s Ceremonial Sword on another listing. Visit our store! Offered here is an Antique Circa 1870s Masonic Knights Templar Sword with its Original Scabbard from a Former Knights Templar Member of Philadelphia, PA. Antique sword features an ivory/bone grip with scrimshaw engraving of the former owner’s initials “AHC”. With metal cross on front side of grip. Blade is ornately engraved with Knights Templar imagery and “Philadelphia”. With ornate pierced cross guard and figural Knights Templar Head Pommel. Scabbard mounts feature embossed detail including Templar Knights and the finest engraved brightwork scrolls along shaft including the Ancient Cross through Crown and former owner’s name. This is the Finest Victorian Era Knights Templar Sword. We are also including an extra found on the estate including a Knights Templar booklet with former owner’s name mentioned. The Knights Templar are a Masonic organization dating back to the Crusades in the Middle Ages circa 1096, which they are most known for taking part in. This particular sword was found on the same estate as his son’s sword, who was a Third Guard in the St Johns Commandery, No 4, Special Order No 1 of Philadelphia, Pa, circa 1900s, who held their meetings in the Asylum, Gothic Hall of the famous Masonic Temple at Broad and Filbert Streets. The father, whom this sword belonged to, was initiated into the La Fayette Grane F. & A.M. Lodge in 1868, leading us to believe he also belonged to the Knights Templar around the same time. He was stated as being a Trustee in 1913 shortly before his death on March 15,1913. Paperwork included is a 16 page booklet for the St Johns Commandery, No 4, of Philadelphia, Pa, dated March 17, 1913, which was the last time the former owner’s name is mentioned. We are selling accompanying photos which show the former owner with his sword and we are also selling the Son’s Ceremonial Knights Templar Sword. Blade is hallmarked with a knight symbol. Scabbard is engraved with former owner’s name. Item is in excellent condition with light surface wear. Hairlines in grip the longest which spans from cross guard to pommel. Wear to finish on scabbard, pommel and cross guard. Rust spots on blade. Blade is not sharp. Overall surface wear to paperwork with tears on edges/foxing. Measures approximately 37 5/8" long including scabbard and a 5.5“ long cross guard. Blade is 29 5/8“ long and 7/8" wide. Booklet is 6” long and 3 7/8” wide.
