Description
This is a totally awesome 40 x 60 inch (nearly 3 by 5 feet) quality archival Giclee print on heavy duty artist canvas of a massive 20 foot high shorebreak wave at Waimea Bay, Haleiwa, North Shore Oahu, Hawaii by long time professional photographer Bill Romerhaus. His most recent job was for the new CBS-Paramount Network TV series "The Cleaner" on A&E/CBS Networks, Universal Pictures "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" now being released and filmed in Hawaii, Warner Brothers Productions "The Big Bounce", and the TV series pilot "Rocky Point" filmed on the North Shore, providing vintage photos of Haleiwa and surfing for background artwork. This is one of five wave photos we offer (you can see them in the photos below). The gallery photo you see is slightly more saturated (more blue) in color than the print we are selling, (the actual colors are truer to the prints you see on the large prints on the table on the accompanying photos below). These prints are listed as 40 by 60 inch but are printed for a 'wrap around frame' as seen in one of the photos included, which may be a few inches smaller to allow for the wrap around material. We feel that this is the best method for the canvas prints, however if you want to mount in a conventional frame using glossy or semi-matte paper, we can provide those type of prints too. Best to contact us first is you dont want the canvas wrap around print, the price will be the same. Waimea Bay is one the largest surf breaks in the world and these Waimea shorebreak waves are some of the most powerful on earth, generated by far distant North Pacific Ocean storms during the winter months (Sept-March). They are an incredible example of the ocean's mightiness. This 20 foot high wave is breaking in water only about four feet deep. It has been said that one wave this size if harnessed for energy could provide enough electrical power to light a thousand homes for over an hour. Native Hawaiians, surfers, and a lot of oriental people consider these magnificent waves to be a supreme example of power and manifested with the spirit of mother nature. To actually see these waves breaking along the shoreline is an awesome and unforgettable experience. Very few people in the world ever get to see these waves actually breaking and the size of this print makes it very impressive. This photo, when framed, sells for much more ($1200+) at galleries in Hawaii. Please don't forget that this photo is printed on artist canvas and may be slightly smaller (see photos) so that there is enough canvas to wrap around a frame. When people ask how sharp they are, please remember that these were digitally scanned from a 35mm color transparency, the file size is about 150-200+ megabytes. If you look at the print with a magnifying glass from a foot or two away, it will look a little grainy and not super sharp, five feet away it will look sharper, and 8-10+ feet away it will look totally awesome! These type of prints are usually purchased by hotels, restaurants, interior design, and movie production companies etc where the prints are displayed in large rooms and are viewed from 10 to 100 feet away. There are very few people in the world who ever get a chance to own a signed custom print like this, and they look very impressive wherever they may be displayed. **** If you are outside the USA and are planning to purchase one of these prints, please contact us first to see if we can ship to your location.
