Description
Antique Album of 47 Civil War Era (and before) Tintypes and Photographs     click picture to enlarge   DESCRIPTION From an estate...   This listing is for an Antique Album of 47 Civil War Era (and before) Tintypes and Photographs.   These tintypes (25) and photographs (22) are all in CDV sleeves, each featuring artistic gold accents and gold edges. The front and back covers of the album are leather and feature heavy embossing and 4 round, white stones (?) in the corners, possibly in place to provide support for the album when open. The brass buckle clasps are still attached to the covers and work fine, however, the leather spine is worn thin and is separated from the back cover of the album. The binding is almost non-existent and as such, all "pages" are loose.   The following is written in script on the first blank inside page of the album:   Presented to Miss Mary McAlister by her scholars Sept 29th 1865   A card is inserted into the first available CDV sleeve. This card features a very formal script in blue and red, with ornate gold accents. The card reads:   The Heavens declare the Glory of God   The clarity and composition of these photographs and  tintypes are superb and the artistic Cartouche CDV sleeves add well-deserved presentations to the photographs.   The photographs are shown in the order in which they are presented in the album (2 photographs per picture, except for the last one).
