Description
American Civil War Amputation Kit (circa 1860) Complete set contains: A Tenon Amputation Saw (19th century surgeons found the Tenon Saw a cut above the time-honored bow saw) A Petit Tourniquet 3 knives with ebony handles (3 different sizes- 14 3/4", 12 3/4", and 9 1/4") Engraved on blades- "T. Egginton, Manchester" Several small nicks on blade cutting edges Scalpel with ebony handle- 6 1/4" - (Sauigny & Co. engraved on scalpel)- small piece of distal blade broken off Small finger type saw with ebony handle - 81/2"- engraved with "Eggington"- few small dark areas on side of blade A "Bulldog" forceps- Liston's later model A tissue forceps (5 1/2") Liston-type Bone (cutting) Forceps- 7 1/2" - engraved "J. Woodson, York" Two (2) curved 1" surgical needles The wooden case- 17" x 5" x 2 3/4" - (with brass plate- "T. Eggington, Manchester") is sound. Two small areas show loss of veneer. Central key hole, (no key) The ovoid block for holding the Tenon Saw to the roof of the case is loose, as is the leather patch holding the tip of the saw. Both would be easily repaired if desired. The external metal locking catch on the right side is missing. ** shipping note - Ebay shipping calculator is often wrong.
