A long rope (also called "lasso" or "reata"), of braided rawhide, hemp, or today of polyester or nylon. The rope has a loop or eye attached at one end (honda or hondo) through which the other end runs. Also know as a lash rope, string, or catch rope. REATA (or sometimes spelled riata): braided or twisted rawhide rope. "Skin-string" We've sold Lariats for YEARS. But the ones we've sold (& still do) are the newer styles. THIS is an ORIGINAL OLD Riata! It would EASILY date anywhere from 60-100+ years of age. The detail is AWESOME. AND it is HANDS-DOWN the LONGEST one we've EVER come across. Even in researching this one I was unable to find another THIS LONG! (Approx. 68 FEET).  The rope itself weighs close to FOUR POUNDS!  One can only IMAGINE how much time went in to creating it. And someone has taken excellent care of it as it is still FULLY intact!   There are some trying to pass off new ones as "old" right now.  Look CLOSELY at them....if they're really light-colored they are NOT OLD.  This piece still has it's original loop on one end and the other end is ALSO fully intact. This rope is braided with four separate strands or lengths of leather or rawhide. Because of its' age the leather has developed a WONDERFUL patina.    It is WICKED TIGHT.  A very highly prized (RARE) piece that will ABSOLUTELY continue to appreciate in price. In researching these old riatas you'll discover how highly prized they are in the Western collectibles market. The OLD riatas we were able to research were all priced in the $800-$1,200 price range.
