I can't tell the exact type of coloring media, but it does not look like heavy watercolor. May be pencilling. The paper it is made on measures just under 11" X 6.5" and the doll itself measures 9" X 3". The colors are absolutely eye catching. At the base of the sheet there is a pin-prick phrase "ALA MODE PARIS" it is obviously done in the same hand as the doll, and is overlay attached. It should show in the picture of the feet. It would make you think the doll is french, but the backing paper has biblical and religious verse written in English. So I'm afraid the origin is a guess. There is no date on this that I can find, but it obviously is pre-1900 and based upon the clothing design it is quite a bit earlier. This comes from a very reputable collection, and I will provide references to the purchaser if it is requested. I have no problem with selling this thru escrow - it is a very desirable and fine condition early piece. If you are looking for a unique piece as a Christmas Present this certainly fits the bill. As with most hand done pieces I doubt you'll find another. If you are looking for a paperdoll, ephemera, or hand made collectible this deserves a solid look over. I prefer paypal but will accept money orders or checks. Shipping costs will be determined at the conclusion of the sale as this must ship insured or be picked up. I have listed the cost as $20 via USPS as a general figure for the lower 48 states and insured for this amount.
