It was brought with them to the US from Greece sometime in the late 1930's. We know she made it in Greece and brought it with her but we do not know how long it was made before they came here. The house was quite full with all the family and alot of things were left in the trunks and stored away. Four years ago a trunk was opened and this was inside...as gorgeous and vibrant as the day it went in. The rug was never used thus the reason it is in this condition. It has been stored away from sunlight, extreme temperatures, moths, etc. It is just remarkable. I can't even begin to imagine the hours she put in to this. The craftsmanship is amazing! She didn't skip one single stitch. The rug is quite heavy and is backed by a linen fabric. The backing is a little yellowed from age but yarns are vivid and the design...WOW. Measures 51" x 66". My photos do not do it justice. Other than the minor yellowing on the back the rug is in EXCELLENT condition. Use the calculator below to determine your shipping costs.
