Description
Offered at no reserve. ....... An outstanding Art Deco sterling silver enamel compact. What an incredible piece! It is marked STERLING on the outside, and inside carries the R&G maker's mark for Ripley & Gowen of Attleboro, Mass., who made wonderful sterling & enamel compacts in the 1930's. The front has checkerboard yellow guilloche enamel with a hand painted basket of roses. The back has a very unusual floral engine turned pattern. The edges have repousse scroll designs. There is a loop above the closure, so the piece could be shown off on a chain. Inside is a rouge applicator that is held in place above the nearly unused pink rouge. Around the outside edge of the applicator is a tiny silver handle that efficiently turns the hidden cover underneath to reveal holes to allow powder to be sprinkled out, and if turned all the way, opens a larger access to refill the powder reservoir! On the inside of the top is a mirror that is either glass, or highly polished silver. The compact measures approximately 2 1/4 inches tall by 1 3/4 inches wide. The piece weighs a substantial 51 grams. It is in superb condition. There is no damage to the enamel, and only light wear to the sterling case. The clasp works perfectly, and the 3-pin hinge is strong. The rouge has barely been used, and the applicator is in great shape. There is NO MONOGRAM. We are happy to ship worldwide, and to combine shipments from the same week to save you money, where possible.. Please contact us for a quote. Please note: Whenever possible, we try to gently hand polish our silver pieces. This provides you with two important benefits. First, it is difficult to see damage through years of patina. Sellers who tell you that they will leave cleaning or polishing to you are either afraid of uncovering damage, or simply don't want to invest the time and effort necessary to clean and polish the pieces. It is difficult enough to purchase irems that you cannot first hold in your hand. We believe that this should not be compounded by having you peer at items through 100-200 years of grime. Secondly, YOU do not have to polish the item when you receive it! If we inadvertantly miss a defect of any significance, please let us know right away so we can make it right. Please see the other fine sterling flatware & smalls we have for sale. PLEASE NOTE: Buyer to pay fixed shipping, handling, insurance fee. We are happy to combine shipping on multiple items from the same week. Payment must be rec'd within 7 days to assure sale. Please contact us with questions.
