The polychrome painting (several different layers) is called cold painted since it was not fired. Two fine colorful lovebirds in good condition are perching on a branch. Great birds with excellent detail. The name Lovebird stems from these birds' affectionate nature. This is reflected by the birds name in other languages: in German, "die Unzertrennlichen," and in French "les inséparables"- "inseparables." For this reason, many people feel strongly that lovebirds in captivity should be kept only in pairs. Others believe that lovebirds, like other parrots, are social animals that can bond with human companions. Some time ago I had a similar bronze. This one is in even better shape. DIMENSIONS: 2 9/16 (6.5 cm) tall and 4 1.2 (11.5 cm long) AGE: circa 1920 CONDITION: Good. Only minor paint losses. Original paint, no restoration, no repairs, no touch ups! The leaves in front are bent up. I leave it to the buyer. The bronze has been cleaned professionally. Franz Bergmann (1838 1894) was a professional chaser from Gablonz who came to Vienna and founded a small bronze factory in 1860. His son Franz Xaver Bergmann (1861 1936) inherited the Company and opened a new foundry in 1900. From that time the Bergmann bronzes were marked with the jar mark and outstanding works were signed Nam Greb (Bergman spelled backwards). Many of the bronzes from the 1900s were still based on designs by Franz Bergmann the elder. The piece bears the Bergmann logo B in the urn or amphora and is marked AUSTRIA - We can send you valuable information about hallmarks of Vienna Bronzes, just contact us.
