Description
me Hi all, make sure to check out our other auctions and click on the "me" icon just above to visit The Fossil Gallery and find out more about us! If you have any questions about the item, or even fossils or minerals in general, please don't hesitate to email us at: Ari@ thefossilgallery.com This tooth has absolutely no repair or restoration, in fact, we do not buy or sell repaired or restored teeth. ______________________________________ ______________________________________ C. Megalodon Miocene, approx. 5-10 million years old GA, USA 6.02" x 4.40" wide (Upper Anterior Tooth) _______________________________________________ You all know how hard it is to find even a decent quality 6"+ Meg with no repair or restoration. It is perhaps the hardest tooth to find, both for collectors and dealers/divers alike. Sure, you can get worn, beat up, dull gray, commercial grade 6" teeth (and even they sell for several hundred to a thousand dollars), or, you'll see a big 6"+ Meg that looks really nice, except for the fact that it's been restored or repaired, in which case, it's really worth very little to serious collectors. So rarely will you see a tooth over the 6" mark that has pristine, knife-sharp serrations, an intact tip, and absolutely no repair or restoration of any kind, they are just incredibly hard to get. And, they are virtually always the typical dull gray color, but, even with common, not particularly attractive color, a really top notch 6"+ Meg can and will sell for thousands, they also happen to be the easiest tooth for a dealer to sell, the truth is, everybody wants high-end 6"+ teeth, but, there just aren't that many to go around, hence the high prices. Let's move away for a moment from sheer size, right up there with size, is color, color is at least as important and valuable an asset for a tooth as size, and of course the rarer and prettier the color, the more the tooth is worth, but, I honestly can't recall the last time I came across an unrepaired, unrestored Meg that was over 6", in pristine condition, that also had super rare colors. So, while it's true that a top notch 6"+ Meg is indeed a Holy Grail for most collectors, a high quality 6"+ Meg with extremely rare and beautiful color is perhaps the Holiest of Grails. :) So, enter this astounding specimen from Georgia, USA. Over 6", just under 4.5" wide, I have huge hands, and you can see how the tooth dwarfs them, this is a monster of a Meg, no question. It has some of the most pristine serrations Ive seen on a 6"+ Meg, they are about as sharp and well preserved as those you find on a modern GW tooth, and folks, it doesn't get any better than that. There is a tiny nick to the crown just below the root on one side, hardly noticable, but that aside, the serrations are, amazingly, pretty much flawless, I really see no nicks anywhere, their preservation is truly mind boggling for a tooth this large. The tip is absolutely un-be-lievable! It's moderately pathological, and offset, the beginnings of a secondary tip likely, and it sticks out like a needle, not a flake or nick on it, about the best tip you will ever see on a huge Meg, in fact, I can't think of too many smaller Megs that can match this one for tip definition and perfection, to get a tip like this on a 3-4" Meg is nearly impossible, to get it on a 6"+ Meg is once in a lifetime. It also has a hook that I tried to show in a straight on, angled pic, and, if you look closely, you'll also see that the tip serration itself actually has a tiny point on it! Like I said, unreal. :) The color on this giant Meg is nothing short of spectacular, you just cannot get better, rarer or prettier enamel on a fossil tooth, not even from Bone Valley, there are almost too many colors going on to describe, but mostly I see jet black, red/tan/orange, gray and almost white, all beautifully marbled together, I have never seen such fine marbling on any size tooth, let alone a 6"+ Meg. To get a 3" Meg with color like this would be a major score, but to have a 6"+ Meg with enamel and color like this is almost hard to believe. And, the enamel is just glossy as can be. Not polished to be glossy, but naturally glossy, it seems like candy. Now, yes, there is some enamel peel on the non display side, but, 1) It's called the non display side for a reason. :) And 2), it's not horrible, and it is pretty much the only flaw on this tooth, and when you factor in the size, color, serrations and tip, it really becomes somewhat trivial, you always have to accept a flaw or 2 even on the best 6"+ Megs, and as far as flaws go, it's really not so bad, and, while there is some enamel missing there, the enamel that's present is just plain gorgeous! Finally, it may seem like the bourlette isn't intact, and yet, it really is, but it has colors that blend in somewhat with the root, and as such it only seems at first glance like it's not there, in reality, it happens to be an exceptionally nice and complete bourlette for a tooth this size, VERY rarely do 6"+ Megs have any bourlette at all, and this one happens to be very nice. When you add it all up, the amazing size (with no repair or restoration), the uncanny preservation, with those killer serrations and that remarkable patho-needle tip, the very nice multi-colored bourlette and of course that breathtaking enamel, well, you can all decide for yourselves if you have seen a finer, more impressive 6"+ Meg, if there has been one to match it on Ebay, it hasn't been recently, and I just don't recall any 6"+ Megs on Ebay that really rivaled this one for sheer rarity and beauty, so, all this said, I think my Buy it now price is pretty fair, but go ahead and make offers, I won't come down too much, but, we might find some common ground and work it out. If this tooth doesn't make you grin from ear to ear, just send it back for an immediate, complete refund, including the shipping both ways. If you want arguably among the most impressive and just plain beautiful giant Megs in the world, well, it's right here. You won't be even slightly disappointed, I guarantee it. Thanks for looking! Ari If you have any questions about this tooth I have not addressed, please just shoot me an email at: Ari@thefossilgallery.com Good luck!!! __________________________________________________________________________ Keep an eye on TheFossilGallery for the rarest and best Meg teeth available online, and, if you'd like to see lots of pictures of some of the best Meg teeth ever found, and other world-class fossils, just click on the red and blue "Me" link here: me Clicking on the "Me" just above will also give you a lot more information about us and what we do. It only takes a few seconds, I think you'll be glad you did, some truly great stuff to see. __________________________________________________________________________ And remember, several years ago, we were the first major Ebay shark tooth seller to offer the best, most complete return policy imaginable, win the tooth, if it isn't everything you wanted or expected, just send it on back for a full, immediate refund, AND I also reimburse you for shipping BOTH ways so it has cost you literally not a penny to see this specimen in person, I never want any collector to feel obligated to keep a specimen they don’t love, with this simple, no hassle return policy, you just cant lose, it's been my policy for over 6 years now on Ebay and it will never change. The best, highest quality collectable is never cheap folks, you all know that, but, if you think about it, it's always the best value in the long run. You’re never stuck with something you can’t sell, nor with something you don’t enjoy immensely. Thanks for looking and good luck! __________________________________________________________________________ TFG's Shipping Costs and Terms: If you win this specimen and wish to return it for any reason, we will refund your money in full, and reimburse you for shipping BOTH ways, so that it costs you nothing to see this amazing fossil in person. Fully insured, domestic Priority shipping is $10 (My actual cost to ship this tooth will be around $25) International buyers, please email me for shipping options. Also, we know the uncertainty of dealing with an internet/Ebay dealer, yes, we have great feedback, but we make this further promise, if the item is lost or damaged during shipping, which is actually extremely rare, WE are responsible, you get a full, immediate refund, and we have the headache of getting reimbursed by the post office 6 months later, we feel this is ALWAYS the sellers responsibility, despite the fact that many sellers feel the opposite, make sure you know your seller's policy on this for obvious reasons. We feel that the few extra dollars you will pay for the insurance is well worth it for the peace of mind it brings, and, we generally charge less for shipping than it costs us, so something you will not experience with TFG is the seller attempting to make money on shipping, we sell teeth and fossils, not stamps and postage. :) Make sure to check out our other auctions and Click on the "me" link above to visit The Fossil Gallery.Good luck and happy bidding!
