Description
In the late 1800's, a travelling artist painted images of the very best Navajo rug designs then available, and his paintings have hung on the upper walls inside the Hubbell Trading Post at Ganada AZ ever since. A few times a year, the National Park Service selects one of the very best weavers to create a new rug in one of those traditional patterns. This excellent CHIEFS BLANKET is one of those few rugs commissioned by the Park Service during 1974. This weaving by reknowned Navajo artist Elsie Wilson was purchased new by the current owner directly from Hubbell's and fresh from the loom of the weaver. In Ganado red, deep Prussian blue, jet black, and crisp white, this classicly-proportioned 2nd phase Chiefs Blanket rug (59" x 49") is very exciting and carries wonderful authority. The weave, at 48-count, is very even and tight, making sharp design elements, crisp & regular corners and very clean straight lines, both horizontally and vertically. No lazy lines in this rug. Like my other weavings, this rug has been carefully displayed on the walls of my homes for most of its life. When stored, it is rolled; never folded, and will be shipped rolled. Additional details and large-format photos about this rug will be provided upon request; contact me through EBay. Item will be seen to be as described; returns will not be accepted. Seller will ship to continental U.S. address only. Shipping insurance optional and highly recommended, cost to be paid by buyer. Receipt of item will be positively verified.
