HERE IS DAN'S BIO FROM HIS SITE: Hello, I'm Dan Harrison, and I've been designing and making knives for more than 50 years. My knives are completely free-hand ground from raw stock, without the use of automatic knife grinding machines, milling machines, fixtures or jigs of any kind. I use D-2 tool steel for hard-working knives, as it is the steel used to make shear blades and punch press dies, and has no equal for strength and toughness. For collector's pieces I often use damascus steel, as each piece is beautiful and unique. Heat treating is done in my shop using a 12 hour triple draw.I hold numerous patents in mechanical design. For 15 years I designed and/or made custom series knives for such internationally known knife companies as Ka-bar, Kershaw, and Browning, and for several other well known companies and foundations. My Awards include the "1986 American Made Knife of the Year", and the "1987 Shot Show Award of Merit" (for design). I also had the honor to be chosen to make the "1998 Shot Show Knife" (In co-operation with Baron Technologies) and the honor to represent Texas knife makers for three consecutive years at the annual "Folk Life Festival in San Antonio". The mainstay of my business is loyal, repeat customers. I enjoy talking with my customers about the selection of materials, design and specifications, as well as just to keep in touch. Each customer will be e-mailed as the knife progresses. Currently the approximate wait is 3-6 months.My wife, Carol has been making my sheaths for nearly 40 years. Her first priority is to protect you. She uses quality, heavy leather with a thick welt, first glued, then pre-drilled and hand sewn with double stitching. To protect the knife, no brads or metal snaps are used. Some custom orders will have a pig-skin lining. Unless otherwise requested, expect a brown antiqued finish. Dan Harrison's knives have been on display in museums of fine art both here and abroad and are found in the private collections of well known sportsmen, world leaders, celebrities and appreciated customers like you.
