DRESS-MAKING MADE EASY Isabel Conover 1919 sewing RARE Shipping Info Description Dress-Making Made Easy, 1919 by Isabel De Nyse Conover Published by Edward J. Clode, New York. Copyright 1919. A very uncommon title, First Edition; one of the "Make It Easy Series", hardcover, 149 pages with index, plus 2 pages of publisher's ads; illustrated with 133 small in-text instructional drawings. The Introduction states in part that "The object of this book is to set forth the quickest and best method for every operation in sewing. It is a handy book of reference, where the making of any part of a garment can be easily looked up...The things which have often seemed intricate in the methods of the experienced tailor and dressmaker are shown as they really are - simple means of procedure in sewing followed out step by step. Every question in the making of a garment is anticipated and answered, from the cutting out of the pieces to the sewing on of the last hook and eye. (This book) is based on years of experience in manufacturing patterns and making garments". Chapters include: Preparing the Material and Cutting, Hand Sewing, Seams and Their Uses, Tucks Pleats and Fullness, Closings and Plackets, Pockets, Sleeves and How to Hang Them, Finishing, Trimming, Be Your Own Designer, Coat Making, and Fitting. Decorated tan cloth, measuring 5 by 7.5 inches; some heavy exterior wear, well-used with rubbing to edges and corners, rubbing at spine extremities and along hinges, two holes to the cloth near the bottom of the rear hinge, scuffing and rubbing and some minor spots to boards; the interior hinges show evidence of glue repair - not professional, but and decent job and quite clean overall - the hinges are now strong and the book is now readable; small edge tear to first blank endpaper; most pages are clean, a few have some minor margin smudges or small corner crease. Condition is Good-. (Rare & Uncommon Books, Sewing, Vintage & Antique Clothing, Costumes, Instruction, Guides, Manuals, How-to, Hobbies, Home, Arts & Crafts, Business & Industry, Tailoring, Textbooks, Reference & Research).
