Description
NOTE: Pictures 7,8,9,10,11 are of the coffee table sized book: Flora Photographica. This book has E. F. Kitchen's image on page 74 and you can see it in the index photo. This book will also be yours. I believe it is out of print now. Also, in order to understand the printing technique of "platinum palladium" please research this on line. It is very tedious, time consuming, using toxic chemicals. The film and camera used on this image was the SAME SIZE as the 8x10 print itself. Ms. Kitchen painstakingly printed each and every of the only 15 images in the edition. I bought the whole edition and over the years have sold a print to various clients of mine who truly loved the image. Since I held all the images, San Francisco Museum of Photography had to come to me to purchase one for the museum so there is one there. Also, Los Angeles County Museum of Art has this image in their permanent collection, albeit theirs is a larger format. This image reminds us of the 1930's and 40's due to the fact that it IS platinum palladium printing, extremely sensual in feel. This printing results in the black being blacker and the magnolia and leaf rich and finely defined. "MAGNOLIA II" I believe, is one of the finest photos that E.F. Kitchen has taken. You can see it on her website. In person it takes your breath away with its sensuality and feeling. This is #14 of the 15 made in this series. I own #15. This is the last one. I would never part with mine and the other 13 people that own one would never part with theirs either. She did this in the 80's and had it hidden away until she came to see me (I was an art dealer) to show me her work. After viewing many of her images I asked if she had something else that I was looking for, dramatic, perhaps black and white. She then showed me this as she had done this image and had not done any of the printing of it as yet. I was bowled over. I bought the whole edition on the spot. It was months before I received all 15 as she is meticulous and in printing if she didn't like how one came out she would destroy it. I felt it was awesome and I held these and never put them on the "market" for sale and only allowed certain clients to buy when I felt they actually "deserved" one. Silly? Maybe. But, I thought these so special and still do and hope the winner of this last one will understand and know what they are getting. The image is just a tad under 8x10. It is matted, signed by E.F. Kitchen and numbered 14/15. You can frame it archivally in a 16x20 frame. Need more photos? Email me with your full email address and I will send. Thank you. Please ask questions. NO REFUNDS ON ART.
